Surge Protectors Protect Your Electronics From Harm
Electronic devices like televisions, computers, laptops, and kitchen appliances are expensive. In in order to make our investment worth it, we should protect them. These devices are part of our daily lives, and having to replace them would not only be annoying, but a real strain on your wallet.

For a small amount of money, you can get a surge protector that will regulate the power flow to your computer and keep things like lightning strikes and power outages from harming your expensive appliances.
Surge protectors do just what they say: they are an electric "firewall" against sudden drops or surges in the power supply. The device plugs directly into a wall socket, and then other devices are plugged into the surge protector. The surge protector make sure that all electric current reaching the plugged-in devices is at correct levels and smooths out any spikes in the electrical power supply. Any devices that are connected with a power surge strikes are protected from damage that might have otherwise resulted.

The number of plugs in the surge protector also varies with the price you are willing to pay.
For pennies on the dollar for what you bought your expensive television and video game system for, you can get a piece of equipment that ensures your purchases will not be fried in the middle of a rain storm or if a power outage occurs. Not only that, but many surge protectors come with actual insurance policies that cover up to several hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment damage in the very unusual case that a power surge does damage any of your equipment that is plugged into the surge protector.
If you own electronic equipment that you want to keep for a long, long time, or at least not have to replace because of some freak accident, it is highly advised that you buy the surge protector as soon as possible.

Do surge protectors really protect computers and electronics from lightning strikes?
As the other answers suggested, there is a difference between Power Strip and Surge Protection.
Make certain that it does say that it is a Surge Protector. It will also have a Surge Energy Rating and a Warrenty for equipment damaged due to a surge.
